Evening Watch

Jenna pranced through the damp woods. The Earth was alive and it looked as if it was breathing in the wonderful smell of blooming flowers. She plopped down carelessly on the ground and looked up to the clouds that loomed overhead like vultures waiting to have their dead meal. Her hair streamed out behind her head and her mouth was curved into a perfect smile. She breathed a sigh of releif from all the stresses of high school and being what she was: a vampire. A heartbeat got closer as Jenna saw a doe tiptoeing its way through the wet leaves and twigs. Jenna ignored it and continued to stare up at the clouds.

The doe, sensing that a predator was nearby, took a step back. Jenna quickly stood up and saw releif but confusion on the doe's narrow face. Her power was useful for watching the enviroment and animal's behaviors. The doe looked back and forth but then silently gave up her search for the threatening creature. Jenna watched as the doe lowered her head to eat a mouthful of newborn grass.

Creeping away on her bare toes, Jenna left her favorite clearing and then dashed as fast as she could to where ever her feet would take her; She came to a massive tree that had dark brown branches that seemed to reach up and past the cloudy sky. She slowly climbed up its branches, inspecting its designs that seemed to be etched into it. Jenna got to a thick and sturdy limb, climbing onto it and swinging her legs while the breeze blew through her dark brown hair. It felt like she could sit there for the rest of the day, dreaming that she was flying like Sigfreed, the school mascot. The sun was setting in the distance, its rays arched out into the clouds and the rest of the sky. Stars started to appear slowly as the sun sunk farther down the horizan.

Cold, pale fingers danced across the stained wood of the baby grand piano. Grace had never specifically liked the instrument when she was alive. Well, actually she had never played it since piano's were alloted to only the finest first class. Now, as a vampire, she didn't like it much more. She just looked at the object in distaste. She had dreamed of owning one, one day, but when you could have everything you want by just asking for it, the thing lost its glamour. That was the drawback of being a vampire.
Grace did enjoy singing. Jenna usually played the piano while Grace sang old hynms. She also loved to swim. She never let out her full strength around the human. But she loved to swim in the ocean during the winter when no one was around.
A twitter susprised Grace's thoughtful silence. She got up and passed the window where the bird was perched. It didn't even notice her as she glided past. Grace often got bored around the house. Reading and singing were the only things that occupied her everlasting time at home. School was out for Spring Break in would resume soon. The humans flocked to the sea in numbers.
Grace stopped suddenly. The beach, she thought. havn't been there in a while. She decided that it would be a great day to go down for a swim. She knew there would be humans there, but Jenna and Grace kept up a great facade. Grace stepped out onto the open front porch.
" Jenna," She called. To normal ears it would just sound like a genral speaking tone. To a vampire it could be heard where Jenna was. Grace used her power to play with a stray leaf, tossing it up and watching it flost down, while she waited for Jenna.

Woods


The wind carried a sound to Jenna's skilled ears. She had come down from the tree by then and was playing with a small bird, tricking it into almost crashing into her invisible leg. The bird had escaped from her grasp at the last second. "Jenna" the noise said. She jumped but then relized who it was. Her feet carried her for a jog but then stopped suddenly. She had taken off after staring at a rabbit for a minute. She felt the strong wind billowing around her. It was a great day to be out for a run.

Her somewhat adopted sister would be sitting on the front porch, waiting for Jenna to arrive. Jenna slowed her pace as she heard sounds up ahead. She caught a human scent and turned her head swiftly to the left. A group of high schoolers and a teacher were hiking along a marked trail. Jenna ducked behind a bush to watch them. They were all of the nerds at SP. "When will we get there?" asked one with huge glasses and a thin long hiking stick that looked like it could break at any time. The teacher turned around and clapped his hands to get the nerds' attention.

"Now, I know that most of you would probley like to be studying for a test or reveiwing our section on atoms," he looked around and paused a minute, " I also know that we have been studying computer skills all of school last week, but during Spring Break, we need to get more fit." He stared around the group of nerds and then turned his back to them, continuing his slow trod up the hill. The rest followed and Jenna giggled into her palm. She then remembered Grace and started her run again.

In no time, she made it to the house. She could see Grace twirling a leaf with her powers. Jenna suddenly looked down to see... nothing. She grinned at her upcoming prank, and scooted quietly to the front porch. She tiptoed right next to where Grace was sitting, and then spoke, "Don't you just love Spring Break?" She smirked smugly in anticipation of her adopted sister's reaction.

Grace had heard Jenna coming from a mile off. She had anticipated what her mischevious little sis would do so she had gathered a trick of her own. There was a heap of leaves near by and the idea formed in her mind. Using her powers she moved the leaves to float near the branches of the near by pines. She smiled as she heard the tiptoes get nearer.
" I expecially love the soft leaves," She said staring at the clear space. But she knew just wear to drop the leaves.

"uggg!" Jenna scowled, picking a sopping wet leaf out of her dark brown hair. Her golden eyes fixed on her sister's face. Jenna could see her own body reappear out of the corner of her eye. She let the leaf cascade to the porch ground while her feet took her to a seat beside Grace. She sat down, still picking wet leaves out of her hair. "So," she said, "what's up?" The noisy forest would have drowned out the sound for a human, but she knew Grace would hear it. The leaves came off one by one from her hair.

Grace couldn't speak for a long time. The laughs were cascading from her mouth; melodious tinkiling sound. She then calmed herself by imagining the waves washing over her.
" Oh, well I was feeling guite dull when I remebered that we havn't gone to the beach in a long time. So go get ready," She said giving her sister a playful shove towards the door. If Jenna had been a human that would have flewn her through the door.
Grace glided up the wooden, swirling staircase to her room. Grace's room was very bright due to the white wallpaper and huge balcony. The walls were covered in fine art and the bookcases had all of her favorite romance novels in them. Pride and Preduice was on of her new favorites. She had picked up while Jane Austen had still been alive. a stereo stood in the corner so that when Grace felt the need she could preform a solo.
Grace's bare feet squished into the soft, white carpet, as she danced across to her walk in closet. The place was huge. She had sections devoted to all types of clothing. She immediatly went over to the desighner bikinis. As she sifted through the skanty material she put into consideration that something over the top would probably just cause a scene with the male humans. It usually did.
Grace chose a appropriate, but still incrible hot Dulce and Gabbana striring two peice; it was navy and white striped. She hated limiting her clothes selcton because of the humans.
Grace changed in a flash. She went into her bath room to horrible from being outside. Hair frizzing didn't stop when you were a vampire. Her red curls fell down her back in shoulders beautifully
Grace slipped on some sweat pants and some flipflops for the trip. Grace flew down the stairs and was already halfway into her Porche when She called in a teasing voice
" Last one there is a bloodrinker," She called jumping into her car, excited about the race. She revved the engine and sliding on her Chanel sunglasses; even though there wasn't any sun, she still loved to where glasses. With a small laugh she was off.

Jenna stuck her tongue out at her older sis and then flew into her room. She entered her room with one glance: It's walls were a brown and her bed was a cream color and the pillows were ever so soft to a human hand. Fred the fish and his bowl sat on her nightstand along with an alarm clock. Jenna's laptop sat perched on her wooden desk, and a photo of Grace and Jenna hung on the wall. Jenna slipped into her closet, blinking at the bright colors. She stared blankly for a second, dazzled by the new clothes that had just recently come in from the camalgori (italian clothing line) shipment.

She walked past the almost boring school clothes and on to beach bikinis. She found a bright striped green and blue two peice. On the way out of her closet, she grabbed her short shorts and a headband. She slipped on her clothes and then put the headband onto her dark brown hair. It fit perfectly. It was somewhat thick at the top and was a plain blue with a small bow. The designers had specially asked her to wear it after she had complimented them and looked at them with a bright smile. A quick gaze in the mirror was all it took until she was jogging out the door with her mustang's keys. Her car was parked right beside Grace's, it's silver paint glistening. Jenna hopped in and revved the engine to challenge her sister. She pulled out, headed for the beach.

Grace's car zoomed closer and closer to the beaches white sands. Suddenly Jenna's car came into Grace's rearview mirroe. She sped up; no way was she going to let her little sis win. Jenna hated it when Grace let her win, so Grace always tried her hardest.
The Kleins always kept there cars parked a little farther away from the beach when they went. Grace could see the parking space up ahead and, her red hair flying, she hit the breaks with a shreik. She was out of the car in a flash, a smug grin on her face.
